Like the majority of the people, as they purchase their first vehicle. Many fall into the category of “window-shoppers.”

I’m guessing, you are not the person who walked into the dealership and bought the first car they set their eyes on.

You did a lot of checking — comparing prices, quality & make, etc. But that's when you are approached by a car salesman.

For many car shoppers, this is the worst experience. Salesmen who sticks to you & holds tight like a careful prospect. Emphasizing the mileage and other metrics of the car.

But, that’s what poor salesmen do. What an expert seller does & why many people get tricked on having an untimed purchased is,

The salesperson will get you to test their car.

A good salesperson will say to you, “Let’s try out the car first to see if it’s a perfect fit for you. You’ll have nothing to lose.”

The moment you test-drove the vehicle, people will become prey to the attachment syndrome. To illustrate, Josh Kaufman has written this in his book The Personal MBA clearly well:

As soon as you step onto the lot of a car dealership, the salesperson you work with has a single, clear objective: convince you to get behind the wheel of a vehicle for a test drive.

Until you’re actually driving a car, it’s much easier to treat a potential purchase in a detached way. You’re capable of rationally comparing makes and models, features, and prices. You can convince yourself that you’re “just looking,” with no intention of purchasing anything just yet. Once you’re actually behind the wheel of a car, however, the emotional parts of your mind take control. You start to imagine what your life would be like if you owned this vehicle.

You’ve stopped comparing and started wanting. Once you start wanting, you’ll probably buy — it’s only a matter of time.

Takeaway:

There is nothing wrong with being a car salesperson — it is part of their job like everyone else in order to make a living.

What’s wrong is when they choose to hide these tactics away from the normal car buyer. Some salespeople will even take advantage of your attachment syndrome and bump your car fees up — an exorbitant fee that you will regret paying on later on.

But this can be prevented by having awareness. If this article sheds light on you in any way, share it with your friends & families. I believe it’s our turn to make sure they don’t fall in this burden.
